Non-destructive Testing

Welding Inspection: Welding is one of the critical manufacturing process carried out in almost every major industry. Welding Inspection should be done in order to ensure quality and integrity of the structures welded to have better safety. Inspection of welds helps in detecting the flaws early in the manufacturing and construction works there by reducing the cost for reworks and ensuring long component life by detecting and correcting flaws. Using NDT method for the inspection of welds defects like lack of fusion, lack of penetration, cracks, porosity, misalignment and other similar defects can be identified and the material safety is ensured by correction of the detected flaws.

Liquid Penetrant Testing: Liquid penetrant testing is used for examination of surface and subsurface discontinuities in nonporous materials.. LPT can be performed in metals, glass, plastics and ceramics. This method is useful in detecting cracks, porosity, laps, seams and other defects open to the surface that may have developed due to fatigue, impact, grinding, cyclic and overloads.

Magnetic Tarticle Testing: Magnetic Particle Testing is used to detect cracks and other surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. Magnetic Particle Testing is one of the highly sensitive method used for inspection of castings, forgings and weldments’. The inspection can be carried out on both sites and in house.

Ultrasonic Inspection: Ultrasonic Testing uses high frequency sound waves to perform inspection on material to detect flaws or to characterize materials. Ultrasonic Testing is used for thickness measurement, flaw detection, inspection of welds, corrosion and erosion detection in pipelines and lot more.. Ultrasonic Inspection can be carried out on metals and alloys, plastics and composites. Detailed images can be obtained while using Automated Ultrasonic Testing. The discontinuity size and shape can also be obtained while carrying out Ultrasonic Testing.

Visual Inspection: Visual Inspection is one of the most common testing method that is done prior to starting any inspection. Visual Inspection is used to detect the surface discontinuities like underfill, porosity, slag inclusions etc. Boroscope is one of the visual inspection method used to detect defects in machine parts where the access Is very limited.

Preparation of WPS, PQR & WPQT: Welding Procedure Specification (WPS) is the key document needed in carrying out welding process in any industry. WPS describes how a welding process is carried out and it directs the welder to make a better quality weld. A WPS should be accompanied by a supporting Procedure Qualification Record that is a record of test weld performed ensuring the procedure gives out quality welds. Using the WPS individual welders are qualified by Welder Performance Qualification Test (WPQT) which ensures the welders are capable of producing quality welds.

Earth Pit Inspection: Earth has an electrical property, conductivity (or low resistance) that is put to practical use every day in industrial plants and utilities. Earthing is done to protect both humans and equipment’s from abnormal currents. This abnormal current will get dissipated safely when connected to earth via electrode. These earthing points should be checked annually to ensure proper current dissipation.

Thermography: Thermography or thermal imaging uses thermographic cameras to detect thermogram. Thermography is used to locate overheating joints and sections of power lines, which are a sign of impending failure.

The importance of doing Thermography?

  • Lower costs – Save money by finding potential failures, reducing overtime, taking advantage of scheduled outages and extending equipment life.
  • Increase productivity – Troubleshoot in seconds by letting the varying temperatures of components tell the story. Narrow down and rule out possible problem causes faster by seeing the whole picture with infrared.
  • Reduce risk – Reduce the likelihood of unplanned downtime and minimize the risk of arc flash. By regularly checking equipment health and maintaining a safe distance from equipment during inspection, substantial risk is mitigated.
  • Make money – Electrical contractors and professional thermographers provide infrared inspections as part of their service offering. Most insurance companies mandate at least an annual infrared inspection for fire prevention and safety.

Portable Appliance Testing (PAT)

Portable appliance testing (PAT) is the term used to describe the examination of electrical appliances and equipment to ensure they are safe to use. Most electrical safety defects can be found by visual examination but some types of defect can only be found by testing.

In-service Inspection Services

The In-service inspection is based on a 3P’s process (People, Product and Process).

URS Inspection Services’ highly trained & certified inspectors or examiners verifies and assures the integrity of product, process or systems under stated working conditions. We will deliver efficient and cost effective implementation of inspections and integrity management programs and to ensure integrity of plant facilities including all onshore and offshore structures, pipelines, stationary equipment, piping systems etc. Our Integrity Engineers and Inspectors are specialized to lead and review RBI analysis, conduct fitness for service review, and conduct remaining life analysis & life extension studies.

Our Services include:

API inspections: API certified inspectors in the field of Pressure Vessel (API 510), Pipeline (API 570), Aboveground Storage tank (API 653) are involved in in service inspection to ensure the continued safe use of the equipment. Corrosion analysis, Remaining life calculation & inspection intervals are determined to ensure the safe working environment.

Risk Based Inspection & Fitness for Service analysis: RBI & FFS are the core part while we deal with In-service Inspections. These analysis are done to ensure continued service without failure.
